"Why not [X]?" is a collection of pages on my personal website that lists reasons why I'm explicitly not endorsing particular brands, projects, or people. Or, in other words, why I encourage everyone to stay away from them if possible.

These recommendations are my personal opinion, based on my values and moral compass.

DigitalOcean is a US-based cloud service provider, currently (2026) led by CEO Paddy Srinivasan.

September 2026

Fascist dotfile collection Omarchy announced that DigitalOcean would be joining their Omacom Foundation "as a Founding Corporate Patron with $3 million", pledging to contribute $1 million each year for three years.

DigitalOcean themselves confirmed joining the foundation on their blog (while not mentioning the monetary commitment), and proudly announced that "[Omarchy's] production pipeline, packaging builds, PR review agents, and QA testing, now run on DigitalOcean".

According to Bart Piotrowski, GNOME Foundation Infrastructure Engineer and Flathub maintainer, DigitalOcean canceled their sponsorship of "$50 a month for GNOME and Flathub VMs" in August.

Also, Geoff Graham, editor of famous DigitalOcean-sponsored internet resource CSS-Tricks, is apparently no longer getting his invoices paid and is met with radio silence from DigitalOcean.
